Tropical Storm Lee

As Labor Day weekend approached, so did a tropical storm. Tropical Storm Lee, to be exact. As we watched it closing in on us, we were grateful it wasn't anything more severe that would make us have to evacuate and we were also pretty sure we'd be spending Labor Day weekend "rained in". I looked at it as our version of a blizzard. So Friday, the rains started coming. And it rained and rained and rained some more. Saturday we had plans to do a whole lot of nothing. We were rained in, after all. But it seems that didn't matter too much to the boys. There was no way they were going to stay inside. This was going to be so much fun, you see!
So, if Tropical Storm Lee taught us one thing, it is how much fun "rain biking" is. The boys would go out and ride bikes for the longest time, come in the house and put on dry clothes, hang out for approximately 2 minutes and then say to each other "hey, let's go rain biking again!". And that was the cycle that played out all day Saturday. We went through several sets of clothes that weekend! And at some point Saturday night, Garrett and I were even standing at the end of the driveway under an umbrella, holding flashlights so the boys could go "night rain biking". No joke! So, maybe Garrett and I were even going a little stir crazy by then. Ha ha!

The rain made us all a little crazy! :)
And of course, the minute I stepped out, my lens would fog right up...lovely!

Oh, and let's not forget rain jumping too! Because that was a TON of fun as well! We had some seriously soggy soaked boys on our hands that weekend!

And by Monday (Labor Day), the rain had finally stopped. So it was time to check out what our yard really looked like after this crazy weekend. We were actually pretty worried about a tree breaking in the yard and falling on the house or something like that, but we came through all right. Just lots and lots of branches all over the yard. But luckily the boys were more than eager to get out there and "help"!

Sam was demonstrating just how heavy this stick was. Such a goof ball.
And the reason the boys were so eager to get out there was because they were exploring & looking for what kinds of wildlife may have been washed up in the storm (Tyler's words, not mine!). And you see, we do live in a jungle after all, so it really was an adventure! Binoculars were necessary!

And they were fully expecting to see lots of frogs, since we usually see them after a rain storm, but we didn't even see one single frog. Maybe they drowned? Ha ha!

Their adventure was a great way for us to get some of the yard cleaned up, at least!
And with that, we finished out our Labor Day weekend pretty much not doing a darn thing (except the boys, of course). We sat inside, listened to the rain, and watched college football. Not too bad actually. But we were all ready to set foot on dry land again and get out of the house by Tuesday, that's for sure! And one beautiful thing about the storm was the cool dry air it brought us for at least a few days. In September it is usually still very hot and humid, so it was a nice break to have a few very mild days. We loved it! And I can definitely say that our grass has never been greener than it was the week after the storm! After a pretty dry summer, our yard was happy to see the rain!

It is so crazy to think of wanting to be out in a rainstorm with shorts and a tanktop on. It just looks cold to me! I guess that's one of the many huge differences between ID and LA! At least the boys could get out of the house and stay entertained during the storm!
